Not the blog, but myself ~~- in two stages in the next two weeks, mostly due to lack of space.~~ So it will be even more quiet in this blog for a while.

(And I’m using the opportunity for another photo for Projekt 52, specifically “DIY”, one of June’s topics. Though I don’t think the penguin will be much help filling all these boxes…)

Cache

A little internal note: A few hours ago, I activated WP Super Cache, a plugin that caches the generated pages for some time – for the general audience even as pure HTML files so not even the PHP engine needs to start – thus reducing server load. Basically, you should notice no difference except that those pages that were accessed in the recent past are faster. Those who have written a comment (and got a cookie from that) won’t be served the “super cache” HTML.

The display of the recent comments in the sidebar may be not always up to date for non-commenters on cached pages, but I guess that’s not that much of a problem.

Moreover, DB Cache Reloaded has been running for the past few days, caching single database queries – which has the advantage that accessing other pages that have not been accessed recently also profit from this cache. However I noticed that the first access to admin pages and the first writing of a comment take a relatively long time – probably because DBCR then scans and flushes the numerous old cache files; seems this garbage collection isn’t that great yet…

Well, if you notice something wrong, please tell me.

40 Years

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first manned moon landing of the Apollo 11 mission, my blog header will display images that roughly follow the course of the mission from the launch on July 16 to the moon landing on July 20 to the return on July 24 (even though the actual timeline isn’t matching exactly¹) – here’s a little appetizer in thumbnail size:

(These images still have to randomly share their spot with “Zensursula”, protesting the installation of an internet censorship infrastructure in Germany, falsely pretending to effectively fight child pornography.)

The photos are of course from NASA (and as such in the public domain), some taken from Wikimedia Commons, some from this exhaustive NASA Image Library.

The Big Picture currently also shows a nice selection of photos.

A great site re-creating the mission in a “re-live” kind of way and offering many images etc. is WeChooseTheMoon.org – check it out! (via)

Oh, and those still doubting the moon landings were real should have a look at Bad Astronomy or Clavius.

Language and Link Changes / Sprach- und Link-Änderungen

I have changed the link structure from the ?p=1&langswitch_lang=xx style to the clearer pretty permalinks such as 2006/09/06/hallo-welt/ (plus ?langswitch_lang=en for the English version) – WordPress automatically redirects the old links, so they still work¹ –, and since I’ve got more German readers and am writing more German-only posts, I also changed the default language to German.

You are currently reading the English version, so no need to change anything if that’s what you want; just as a reminder:

On the web, click the language link above the post/page title on single-post views or the flags in the top right corner on any page.
For the feed, you may want to change your subscription to the proper new URL
cimddwc.net/feed/?langswitch_lang=en. This applies to feeds of specific tags or categories, too; update: old per-post comment feed URLs that contain & instead of just & may have ceased working. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Ich habe die Link-Struktur meines Blogs vom ?p=1&langswitch_lang=xx-Stil zu den übersichtlicheren “pretty permalinks” à la 2006/09/09/hallo-welt/ (mit Sprach-Anhängsel fürs Englische) geändert – WordPress leitet die alten Links automatisch um, sodass sie weiterhin funktionieren² –, und da ich mehr deutsche Leser habe und mehr rein deutsche Beiträge schreibe, ist die Standard-Sprache nun auch Deutsch.

Eine Sprachumschaltung ist wie immer oben mit dem Link über der Überschrift in den Einzelansichten oder auf jeder Seite mit den Flaggen rechts oben möglich; wer den Standard-Feed ohne Sprach-Code abonniert hatte und jetzt deutsch statt englisch erhält, muss ihn unter cimddwc.net/feed/?langswitch_lang=en neu abonnieren; dies gilt auch für Tag- oder Kategorie-Feeds.

Am bisherigen deutschen Feed müsst ihr nur was ändern, wenn euer Feedreader keine Weiterleitungen beherrschen sollte – was aber sehr nachlässig von diesem wäre. Update: Kann aber sein, dass die alten Kommentar-Feed-URLs zu einzelnen Beiträgen nicht mehr funktionieren, wenn sie & statt einfach & enthalten, sorry.

well, it requires a plugin like Redirection to do so with 301 permanent redirects instead of temporary 302 on this server; my local XAMPP test didn’t need it
auch wenn es hier seltsamerweise ein Plugin wie Redirection benötigt, damit’s ordentliche permanente 301-Redirects statt temporärer 302 sind; meine lokale XAMPP-Testinstallation schaffte das auch so

And this is the 1000th post in my blog²… Starting with short and ~~mostly~~ banal posts in the first three quarters (beginning September 2006) – with a fan-tas-tic average of 2.5 posts per month –, both content and frequency of posts slowly increased, and on 12 June 2007, drumroll please, the first trackback from another blog arrived at my quick report about the first, miserable “public beta” of Apple’s Safari browser for Windows – 16 minutes after publication, hooray for Google’s speed! –, and slowly the first visitors and commentators (that I didn’t know personally) arrived, and things really started with the Technorati link campaign in August 2007 – let’s face it, who really cares about the Technorati Authority? The visitors (and commentators) coming through such a campaign are what’s really important!

Well, we’ll see the thousands more posts and comments the future will bring…

Since there’s an insulting anti-atheist running around here via an anonymizing service – which means he wouldn’t see this post if it were German only – this German text is here in English, too; sorry.

Über die Geschmacklosigkeiten der Presselandschaft im Rahmen des Amoklaufs von Tim K. in Winnenden schreibt schon PaulChe eine schöne Zusammenfassung (via BloggerAmt) – hier hingegen geht es um meinen theistischen Rumpöbler, der sich Hans-Kilian nennt und hier schon ein paar Mal vor allem durch seinen Mangel an Höflichkeit und sein Lieblingszitat “Menschen ohne Beziehung zu Gott sinken unter das Niveau von Tieren” vom vorgeblich bekannten Stuttgarter Mathematiker Bodo Volkmann (laut Politik.de-Forum gesagt auf dem Jahreskongreß der Internationalen Vereinigung christlicher Geschäftsleute (IVCG) in Basel, 1994) aufgefallen ist.

Nachdem dieser “Hans-Kilian” oder auch “Hans-K.” nun nach seinen ersten (noch dazu unpassend plazierten) Beleidigungen meine Kritiken an der Uri-Geller-Show und insbesondere dem esoterischen Unsinn des Namensgebers als Verunglimpfung von Papst, Kirche und Religion an sich umgedeutet hat – der Verlauf ist hier nachzulesen (und einen weiteren ähnlichen Kommentar hatte ich gleich gelöscht) – hat er nun gestern seine bisher letzte Geschmacklosigkeit abgesondert, in der er alle Atheisten gleich mal mit Amokläufern gleichstellt:

Entlarvend für die Geisteshaltung dieses Kommentators – muss man zu diesem Blödsinn noch mehr sagen?

Doch, eines auf jeden Fall: Ich habe keinen Bericht gefunden, in dem der Glaube oder Nichtglaube von Tim K. überhaupt erwähnt worden wäre – kennt jemand einen? Aber jemand, der wie “Hans-Kilian” die Existenz Gottes irrigerweiese für “10000000000mal” mathematisch und physikalisch bewiesen hält und sich abstruse Schlüsse ziehend und beleidigend durchs Internet pöbelt, lebt wohl ohnehin in einer anderen Welt und hat sicher keine Probleme damit, so etwas samt geschmacklos-unpassenden Verallgemeinerungen zu konstruieren.

Und als ich mit diesen Text gegen 13 Uhr soweit fertig war, kam er wieder vorbei und versuchte es gleich 5x, einen längeren Müll dazulassen – 4x landete er in der Moderation, beim 5. Mal hat er gemerkt, dass (u.a.) sein Lieblingszitat “greylisted” ist und es weggelassen… und er kolportiert altbekannte, falsche Mythen:

Mao, Hitjer, Stalin Massenmörder und Atheisten
Tim K. Massenmörder und Atheist
Ohne Gott keine Moral, alles ist erlaubt, Anarchie und Tod [...]

Und Schäuble würde “atheistische Blogs überwachen” wollen… Also, “Ha-Ka”, falls du das hier lesen solltest:

Belege erstmal, dass Tim K. Atheist gewesen sein soll.
“Adolf Hitler sah sich als Werkzeug Gottes, der mit dem Holocaust die Heilung Deutschlands und der ganzen Welt bringen wollte.” und “Stalin stilisierte sich als übermenschlichen Propheten der bolschewistischen Säkularreligion, als vom Histomat bestimmten Führer der auserwählten Volksgruppe “Arbeiterklasse”, als unfehlbaren Papst des kommunistischen Parteipriestertums.” – zitiert nach Schmidt-Salomon.
Die Folgerung “Atheismus ⇒ Massenmörder” ist böswillig falsch und unhaltbar. Was jeder, der etwas nachdenkt, eigentlich gleich einsehen müsste – oder andererseits die (genauso dämliche) Folgerung “Glaube und Religiosität ⇒ Massenmörder” mindestens als ebenbürtig ansehen angesichts unzähliger Verbrechen und Massenmorde im Rahmen der Kreuzzüge, Conquista, Inquisition,…
Behauptungen über Anarchie durch Gottlosigkeit sind nichts als unbelegbare Propaganda von religiösen Fundamentalisten. Moral ist menschlich – und wäre jemand, der nur aus Angst vor Gott keine bösen Taten begeht, nicht wesentlich schlimmer als einer, der aus eigener Überzeugzung gut ist?

Übrigens hatte er sich sonst hinter einem Anonymisierungsdienst versteckt, der “siehe Tim K”-Kommentar kam aber von einer IP-Adresse, die ein Mobilfunk- und DSL-Anbieter für seine Kunden verwendet. Nur mal so als Nebenbemerkung…
