The gayest site on the web! [Update]

No, not this one here. It’s the “Conservapedia”, self-proclaimed “trustworthy encyclopedia” with lots of information “information” and “educational” articles of American arch conservatives. At least that’s what Skepchick Rebecca – she also created a nice graphic for this award – says with regard to the Conservapedia’s statistics:

Update 27 Nov: Apparently these numbers were “slightly” fudged using bots, for the fun(?) of it – see the comments at Infothought. It seems, though, that the folks from Conservapedia don’t mind (see comment from the “anonymous coward” loc.cit.)…

Fundamental Surfaces

After Peter Grünberg (together with Albert Fert from France) has yesterday been honored with the Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering the giant magnetoresistance (GMR), which is widely applied in hard disks today, today Gerhard Ertl – on his birthday! – follows with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his fundamental research in surface chemistry, which yielded new insights in various areas such as catalytic converters, rust and ozone destruction. Congratulations!

:clap:

German research may be not that bad in general as it seems sometimes – it shouldn’t rest on these laurel’s, though, since there are other areas of research where it’s looking less “nobel”…

Envious World Cup Final

:applaus: :jubel: :clap:

  • The Brazilians’ envy of the German’s 2:0 victory in the women’s football (soccer) world cup final that has just ended in Shanghai, who could defend their title from 2003 – congratulations!
  • Other goalies’ envy of Nadine Angerer who was able to keep her goal clean throughout the tournament
  • The men’s national team’s envy, maybe, who reached “only” 3rd place last year;
  • The women’s envy, maybe, of the higher audience interest in men’s soccer;
  • And, since “Neid” is the German word for “envy”, of course Silvia Neid, the German coach. :mrgreen:
