Honest spam and unnecessary questions

Earlier today, a spam mail which slipped through my filter honestly announced its dishonest intentions already in the subject line:

New job! fishy

The main text then was just a “Ciao”, a link and badly translated prose. (And there have been are other variations with other words, of course. Most got filtered out correctly, though.)

And a comment spam disguised as questions asked yesterday, among other things:

On what a cursor operates this forum works?

I’ll be so kind and answer this question: Mostly, it’s probably one like this one arrow cursor, and this hand cursor and that text cursor are quite common, too – but basically, it doesn’t matter. :P

I’ll vote for Martin Public!

The Donaukurier is introducing the candidates for the local elections in March, displaying three randomly selected on the sidebar next to the content. And finally I’ve found my preferred candidate:

candidate Mustermann

(Which is a variation of a general template name, like “John Public” or similar. And he doesn’t belong to any party.)

On the “further candidates” overview page, he didn’t show up anymore, though…

How much discount for 30th anniversary?

The DIY store chain who has often been annoying enough with its frequent advertisements “20% on everything – except pet food” – whatsitsname again, erm, yes, “Praktiker” (=practitioner) – apparently now celebrates its 30th birthday. But not that they’d just say “30% on everything” now, oh no, according to today’s flysheet:

  • 31% on cair conditioners and fans,
  • 27% on tiles,
  • 24% on furniture and racks,
  • 23% on building elements,
  • 22% on fireplaces and heaters,
  • 21% on wood.

All that from Feb 1 to 4; plus from Feb 5 to 7:

  • 33% on all energy-saving lamps.

That raises some questions for me:

  • Did they price these things so tightly that this is the maximum discount they can afford?
    :lol2:
  • Or are they just trying to pretend that were the case?
  • Did they roll the dice for these numbers?
  • What can we expect the next weeks and months?
  • Is it worth the potential confusion of customers and employees?
  • On average (with regard to their total sales volume), is that more or less than “20% on everything”?
  • Are these the next lotto numbers?

:zuck:

(Note: More or less regular updates of current rebates in German.)

Five identical twins

digitalkamera.de currently writes (in German – this is my translation):

Birth of Sony T300, S750, W110, W120, W130, W150 and W170
In the middle of the night, they have been born, the Sony septuplets – and they’re doing fine. Among them are five identical twins: […]”

They mean the W models which differ only little:
W110: 4x zoom, 7,2 megapixels,
W120: 4x zoom, 7,2 MP,
W130: 4x zoom, 8,1 MP,
W150: 5x zoom starting at 30 mm, 8,1 MP,
W170: 5x zoom starting at 28 mm, 10,1 MP.

But, erm, then they are no longer twins :) – or do you nowadays count like that: 2=twins, 3=three twins, 4=four twins, …?

Cellphone recommendations

Apart from Bloggerei.de jumping on the Nokia bashing bandwagon, too (which does not mean that I’d agree to their business policy 100%), such an apostrophe on the start page does not look that good: :)

Bloggerei recommends handy's

Translation: Bloggerei recommends cellphone’s from:…

I recommend checking how to make correct plural forms: an apostrophe is always wrong.
