Blog carnival: Music of the Year 2007

Blog carnival Music of the Year 2007 Alright, now I’m conducting a blog carnival (what’s that?) of my own – with three little questions about which music you liked best this ending year:

  • Your song of the year?
  • Your album of the year?
  • Your live concert of the year?
(Alternatively, if you weren’t at a noteworthy concert: Live album/DVD of the year.)

Preferrably, it should be new releases of 2007, but if you came across something older and like that more than any new stuff, that’s also okay. :) And I don’t mind if you write a little more about your choices, of course, but you don’t have to, a simple list is enough.

If you want to participate, write – as usual for blog carnivals – a post on your own blog (you can use the graphic above if you like) and inform me (and the other readers) via trackback/pingback or, if that doesn’t work, a manual comment to this post here; the carnival ends on 14 January 2008, and I’ll analyze the results afterwards, of course.

I’m curious to see what will be mentioned…

My own favorites are:

  • Song: Within Temptation, “What Have You Done” (feat. Keith Caputo) – that song just rocked this spring. :)
  • Album: Ozzy Osbourne, “Black Rain” – in my opinion, an all-around good and, somewhat surprisingly, not at all too soft work from this, erm, strange guy. ;)
  • Concert: Genesis (“Turn It On Again”-Tour in Munich) – great show, great ol’ songs, great evening (after the rain had stopped).

Design change

Yes, I, too, changed my blog’s design a little – I had grown tired of all that pale blue in the background, and the “doodling” and christmas cliparts had to go to. As well as the snow, which is the only thing I’m missing a little…

:photo: But now, there’s one random photo out of three four per month in the upper right corner.*

For comparison: This is how it looked before:

or like this before christmas:

and now like this:

If something’s not working yet, or if you have any opinions or suggestions, just tell me…

* Even as atheist, I can show “seasonal” photos with nativity scenes etc., can’t I? ;)

WordPress: Comment moderation per post

Not only since great judgments from Hamburg (German), some bloggers might think about having all comments moderated before displaying them – which, of course, means more work, and it would hinder discussion between your commenters.

One solution would be to have comments moderated only for posts that potentially attract problematic comments, which I had already though about for my first Global Scaling lotto prognosis article – so I had searched for a plugin or an option, but found none. Then I had checked the WordPress source code for places to add something, and at first hacked this functionality into wp-includes/comment.php – and now, I’ve turned that into a little plugin.

It’s not very comfortable yet – you have to enter the IDs of the affected posts manually directly into the plugin’s PHP file (what’s still more comfortable than editing the WordPress core files). When needed, I might add an options page for that…

Li’l Buttons

Julia’s blogroll update gave me the idea to draw small 80×15 buttons for those of you who’d prefer to link here with images rather than text – round or angular, take what you prefer:

cimddwc button angular   cimddwc button round

For my own blogroll, I’ll stick with pure text links, though, and use buttons only for blog directories and similar things (in the footer).

Editorial blog parade

This is about a German blog parade about blog editors. Anyone really need a translation?
