Gabel betet Löffel an So Jan Becker, “the master of thoughts” with the apostrophe haircut, is the winner of the title and the 100,000 Euro prize money. With his combination of magic tricks, cold reading and overly pompous pep talk, he seems to have appealed to the audience (always assuming the results were not manipulated), but rather appaled me… Though through this talk he somehow is a “worthy” successor to Uri Geller in a stricter sense.

Well, successor – successor to Vincent Raven, last year’s winner (who didn’t get fit quickly enough after his stroke to compete as originally planned), successor to Geller himself who however doesn’t seem to have any plans to retreat from stage, thus not really needing a successor at all. But the show needs a title. Even better would have been a kind of “Germany’s magic idol”, I think – no “mysterious powers” jabbering, no Geller’s dumbing of the masses, but simply honest magic art fascination. But that’d be nothing interesting for ProSieben, and they wouldn’t have attracted a known name like Uri Geller to advertise the show. Then again, he’s rather got the qualities of a red rag now, I guess. Maybe he’ll find a new home on Astro-TV…

A reason for Ully Loup’s, probably quite a few viewers’ favorite, loss yesterday was probably that he just did some little electricity game that didn’t fit the image as “madman” with hidden emotions that he built over the course of this season at all. I generally don’t like the way they did it with taped performances in the final, anyway.

At any rate, the show got what it deserved, that is:

Ratings

Blue lines: all viewers; orange lines: target audience aged 14-49:

ratings

The best ratings this year (at the 1st show) were lower than the worst ratings last year, and they didn’t improve even for the final – so it would really be a miracle if there will be a third season. (Cf. press reports below). They didn’t say anything about it in the show yesterday.

Also, some shows were shorter than planned, there was no long overtime like last year.

Page accesses

No detailed statistics this year, I just want to mention that the number of page views for my reports were clearly below those of last year too. However I still could note several hundred views per show with 40–75 simultaneously during the shows – so here again thank you for reading and commenting.

Press reports

All are German reports, title and quotes my translation:

Monsters & Critics: «The next Uri Geller» will be the last one:

The TV station ProSieben does not make an official statement about ending the show, a spokeswoman only said: «We will continue to work with Uri Geller.»

In general, that may sound horrible – just think about the terrible alien show – but given the ratings, I don’t think there will be a lot to follow.

DWDL: A painful end:

Even though the then ProSieben boss Andreas Bartl grandly announced in spring 2008 to have made a long-term contract with Uri Geller and plan more projects with him – a continuation for “The Next Uri Geller” is highly unlikely, given the miserable ratings this year.

Quotenmeter: Uri Geller also fails in the final

Gabel betet stehenden Löffel an Time for the final tonight (finally!) – “the viewers will decide who will win the title and 100,000 Euro” –, and the three finalists out of the originally 10 contestants are:

Manuel Horeth – wants to start “an impossible mission” “aside from the stage” –, Jan Becker – wants to “create a lifetime connection between two people” (oh dear, that’s gonna be a long show) – and Ully Loup – who allegedly “has only one true friend”, his dog Sina, and who “wants to raise emotions” in his audience, today again with contacting “the crown prince of hell” (see Pro7 newsflashes).

Also the Hungarian David Merlini, invited by Uri Geller, will perform a “spectacular escapologist act – playing a dangerous game with fire”. Or a “specatucular” act, according to the press release. ;) His extreme achievements so far are said to be:

He holds the underwater world record (20 minutes, 39 seconds), spent 33 hours tied in a block of ice and already covered a 100 meter distance in a burning car.

Celebrities today: Presenter Charlotte Engelhardt, presenter Matthias Opdenhövel and actress Julia Stinshoff.

Gabel betet stehenden Löffel an Luckily, we’re approaching the end of the series – four contestants left in tonight’s seventh show:

Manuel Horeth, Jan Becker – “knows exactly what’s going on in those in front of him” –, Jan Rouven – “dangerous play with fire” – and Ully Loup.

This is already the semifinal – one more show next week, and that’s it. As they said last week, there will be no “battle” against last year’s winner Vincent Raven due to his health status.

Celebrities today: television presenter and former singer Johanna Klum, presenter Aleksandra Bechtel and presenter Christian Clerici. Not much variety here, profession-wise…

According to a “TV Guide” poll (via Pro7), 32% of all Germans believe in supernatural phenomena – well then, may those enjoy being dumbed even more by this show if they really believe these are no tricks or sleights of hand. If there is still any hope for some undecided ones: also the links below will help you.

Gabel betet stehenden Löffel an Show number six tonight, and no press release this time either, despite the mishap last week when a trick was canceled.

Of course the remaining five contestants will perform: Manuel Horeth – wants to “prove that fear weighs heavy” –, Waayatan, Jan Becker – wants to sense the “energetic trace” of fingerprints, greetings to mysticism fans –, Jan Rouven and Ully Loup – he reportedly “feels hurt deep inside when one of his competitors must leave the show.” Though I don’t think he will leave himself voluntarily…

Celebrities today: transsexual entertainer Lorielle London, actor, singer and presenter Oli Petszokat (like last year) and former No Angels singer Vanessa Petruo.

Gabel betet stehenden Löffel an Show number five tonight, and again Pro7 didn’t make the effort to write a press release but only a few short newsflashes.

It’s time for all six remaining contestants: Gabriel and Daniel, Manuel Horeth, Waayatan, Jan Becker – searches “the neeedle in the haystack” or rather an apostrophe object hidden in the studio with the help of the celebrities’ eyes –, Jan Rouven – he is “hung headlong on 3 burning ropes several meters above the ground. With the help of his mental abilities he wants to find the correct key to save him from falling on pointed spears” – and Ully Loup.

Celebs today: Singer Joy Flemming Fleming, Tatort actor Ingo Naujoks (who had been pre-announced for last week but wasn’t there) and current Playboy girl, jungle camper and guardian angel parking-space wish bullshitter Giulia Siegel, about whom ProSieben writes (as usual, all quotes were translated by me):

She daily speaks with her guardian angels and even wrote a book about it. At “The next Uri Geller” tonight, she will meet Germany’s best mentalists, some of whom will attempt dangerous experiments. Let’s hope Guilia won’t need her guardian angels tonight…

Following the show, there will be half an hour (gross) “Street Magic with Farid”, about which the wunschliste.de newsletter wrote:

Better a good steal than a bad copy: What’s just a stopgap on Disney Channel with Cody Stone under the name “Magic Attack” now makes the jump into the night program on ProSieben: Farid […] walks through pedestrian precincts and shopping malls and performes magic tricks in front of passers-by caught unaware.

According to Pro7, one of the performances will be reading the PIN numbers from the eyes of bank customers. Does Farid need money that desparately? ;) Anyway, maybe I’ll write about that too, or maybe not, depending on how I feel like tonight.
